Gary Cully added to his unbeaten record in great style with another premature ending.
The Irish southpaw was outstanding against Viorel Simion as he improved to 13-0 at the Bolton Whites Hotel in Bolton, England.
Cully, 25, set about his Romanian opponent early doors, establishing his dominance by unleashing a powerful jab, coupled with a flurry of hurtful body shots, exclusively live on iFL TV worldwide and ESPN + Stateside, as part of the supporting cast to Jay Harris’ meeting against Ricardo Rafael Sandoval in an official final eliminator for Sunny Edwards’ IBF world flyweight crown.
Simion, who has been in with the likes of former IBF featherweight king Lee Selby, did not get chance to get into the fight, with the tall, rangy ‘Diva’ controlling matters without any real issue.
The referee, Michael Alexander, began to have a look at the ever-wilting Simion midway through the third round and eventually accepted the retirement of the Simion corner at the end of the first quarter of the contest.
In defeat, Simion slips to 22-6 with nine stoppages, while Cully added a seventh quick finish to his ledger.
Meanwhile, Jordan Reynolds put in something of a punch-perfect display across six rounds to double his winning tally in the pro ranks.
The former Team GB man, from Luton, took on Manchester-based Czech Jan Ardon and, thanks to a pair of counter right-hand knockdowns in the first and last stanzas, was awarded the victory by a pretty clear 60 points to 52.
Blane Hyland, Reynolds’ fellow ex-amateur standout, got back to winning ways with a straightforward four-round decision against Birmingham’s Reiss Taylor.
Hyland, from Liverpool, was outpointed over six rounds in Dubai last October but managed to secure a 40-36 win to improve to 4-1 from five since making the switch to the paid code.
And Inder Singh Bassi kicked off the show with a four-round shutout victory over Plymouth’s game-as-they-come Chris Adaway, taking it on Kirkpatrick’s scorecard by 40 points to 36.
But the shock of the evening came in the second fight of the night as former WBO European super-bantamweight champion Tyrone McCullagh was taken out by Brett Fidoe.
McCullagh, from Derry, Ireland, came under sustained pressure from the away fighter –– nicknamed ‘The Threat’ –– in the second round and that continued into the third before a barrage floored ‘White Chocolate’, who failed to beat the count before the fight was waved away at one minute and 46 seconds of the third.
