We are looking at what is a very difficult title fight to call this Saturday night in California.
Defending IBF super featherweight titlist Joseph “JoJo” Diaz Jr. (31-1 15 KO’s) of South El Monte, California will be taking on Shavkat Rakhimov(15-0 12 KO’s) of Tajikistan.
The reason this fight is a difficult one to call is because of the resume of Rakhimov – with 12 of his 15 wins coming by KO, it seems the Tajikistani has some power in his gloves, but it is against some overall very questionable competition, so it is hard to say what sort of threat Rakhimov truly possesses here.
Joseph Diaz Jr. is the complete opposite of his counterpart across the ring. Diaz is a very accomplished boxer, a former Olympic boxer with only one blemish on his resume, a decision defeat to Gary Russell Jr., one of the top fighters in the world. Diaz also gained the IBF title this past January by defeating Tevin Farmer, a fighter who had not been defeated in over seven years.
The odds would clearly state that Diaz would be the heavy betting favorite here, but in the world of boxing – you just never know. Either way expect fireworks in this one. Rakhimov is a heavy puncher and will look to be on the prowl for a KO. This could either work in his favor or against, as Diaz would seem to be the much more experienced boxer.
Only time may tell what type of fight we will be experiencing on hand this Saturday, but with a title on the line, this fight has a lot of promise to go down as one of the top ones so far in 2021.
