Danny Garcia (35-2) is back this Saturday against Ivan Redkach (23-4) in a welterweight bout unfortunately this was supposed to be Garcia v Errol Spence Jr, the unified 147lb champion but due to Spence suffering injuries in a car crash up steps Redkach in his place. Now last week even myself was quick to right off Jeison Rosario who upset J-Rock Williams and became the new unified world super welterweight champion. Will I be quick to write off Redkach? I 100% write him off!
Why? The Welterweight division is one of if not the best most competitive divisions in boxing right now and Danny Garcia is ranked 6th in the Ring Rankings, lets compare that to Redkach who has only fought once in the welterweight division in which he knocked out Devon Alexander in the 6th round of their June 2019 bout. Before that Redkach had lost to Tevin Farmer, the current IBF Super Featherweight Champion, so in my eyes there is no way Redkach could beat Garcia.
I expect Garcia to knockout Redkach in the 4th round as he has far too much for the Ukrainian, now with Garcia there is pressure as he has to look good he needs a showreel knockout to set up a summer clash with one of the big boys and I expect Garcia to get a title shot in 2020 but look bad against Redkach and that could all go away.
On the undercard Jarrett Hurd (23-1) fights Francisco Santana (25-7) in a tune up bout. Santana comes off a loss to Abel Ramos and Hurd comes off a loss to J-Rock Williams so I expect Hurd to win but Santana has a good chin so expect this to go to the later rounds and could be a clear points win for Hurd. Hurd needs a win to get back in title contention so if he looks good and knocks Santana out early expect him to be thrown in with Charlo or the winner of the J-Rock V Rosario rematch.
