Hosea Burton is in line for a shot at his old belts after scoring a stoppage win.
The light-heavyweight overcame Liam Conroy as the pair clashed, exclusively live on iFL TV worldwide and ESPN + Stateside, as part of the supporting cast to Jay Harris’ meeting against Ricardo Rafael Sandoval in an official final eliminator for Sunny Edwards’ IBF world flyweight crown.
Burton boxed former English champion Conroy at the Bolton Whites Hotel in Bolton, England in what was a final eliminator for the British title in the 175-pound division.
‘The Hammer’ was victorious after one minute and 44 seconds of the sixth round, leaving him in pole position to challenge the current domestic king Craig Richards somewhere down the line for the title Burton, Tyson Fury’s cousin, held for an eight-month period back in 2016.
Londoner Richards still holds the belt he took from Shakan Pitters despite recently being outpointed by Russia’s Dmitry Bicol in a challenge for the WBA Super world title at the weight.
Burton, with the win, improves to 26-2 with 11 stoppages, while his fellow former MTK Global Golden Contract tournament participant Conroy slips to 18-7-1 with nine quick, having previously been stopped back in September 2020 by Serge Michel.
Elsewhere, Pierce O’Leary scored a highlight reel stoppage against Czech opponent Jan Marsalek.
‘Big Bang’, from Dublin, Ireland, is based in London under the tutelage of Alan Smith and produced a check left hook in the second round, after two minutes and 30 seconds, which forced Marsalek to fall flat on his face.
Marsalek received immediate medical attention before being transferred to hospital, with O’Leary moving on to 7-0 with three quick after a scintillating display in the scheduled six-rounder.
